Moorbank House has a number of Ground Floor Rooms. These may or may not suit those guests with some mobility. This document will assist in making that decision
Moorbank House is set over 2 buildings dating back to the Victorian era. Whilst this does mean we have inherited some interior attractive architectural details it also means that the structure of the building does present some physical barriers to accessibility. If you have any special needs please do contact us before making a reservation so that we can try to meet your requirements as best we can.
The front of the hotel is reached from Moore Street. Guests arriving by taxi can be dropped off directly in front about 4 meters from the entrance. Alternatively the vehicle can draw onto the front forecourt leaving minimal distance to travel to reach the front door. Unrestricted parking is available opposite on Moore Street whilst on the side of the hotel there is a restriction by way of double yellow lines. To reach the main front door there is a set of 3 steps to ascend. A handrail is available on the right hand side. The front door is not automated. There is an alternate entrance that leads directly to our ground floor rooms with a single step over outside the door and a single step up inside. Contact will have to be made with reception prior to using this entrance. If no members of staff are available by the door guests should summon assistance by use of the doorbell.
We advise all our guests to make contact with us through reception prior to their vehicle being moved to the rear car parking area.
The reception area is located on the ground floor and is accessible on the flat once through the front door. The reception area is well lit and we have available a magnifying glass to assist guests with checking in forms if required. Help with luggage is of course available. All public areas including stairways are carpeted throughout the hotel.
The lounge/bar area is located next to the dining room. The furniture is a mix of fixed bench seating, freestanding tables and armed non/armed chairs and stools. The television is remote controlled and has teletext. Waiter service is available if required. The dining room, where meals are usually served, is located next to the lounge. The furniture is freestanding. Waiter service is always available and menus with larger print can be arranged on request. Staff will always be willing to read out the menu if guests would find this more suitable. Most diets can be catered for by prior arrangement. Toilets accessible from the dining room have 2 steps down to them. These toilets are not adapted for wheelchairs. The dining room and bar are situated in the main part of the building slightly away from the ground floor rooms. To gain access to these public rooms guests will pass through a small lounge and step up two steps passing through a door into the main part of the hotel. The dining room door is then directly opposite whilst the bar/lounge is off to the right of the main staircase.
There are 13 guest rooms located on the ground first, and second floors and are all non smoking. Of these there are 3 ground floor rooms. Of the 3 rooms 2 are accessible fully on the flat once through the alternative entry door whilst the third (room 12) involves a single step down from its entry door. For those rooms on the first and second floors there is a banister running the full length of the stairwells
Please advise us before making a reservation if a ground floor room is required so that we can advise you on availability. Bedrooms are en-suite with a shower. There is a small step to get into shower cubicles. Non slip mats are available for showers. All bathrooms have floor coverings to help prevent slips. Mobile phone coverage is generally good and wireless internet is available through most of the building. The fire alarm is audio only. We do not have a night porter but as we live on the premises we can offer assistance in an emergency over night.
We welcome assistance dogs by prior arrangement.The hotel has no literature in Braille. Comments and suggestions from guests that could be included in our statement are always welcome.
