What Would Happen If This Ride Broke Down Just As It Got Near The Top?

its the tango ice blast at blackpool pleasure beach, i believe its only compressed hair that slows it down near the bottom.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJm63gVwi…
but what would happen it there was a sudden power cut?
would some brakes automatically kick in to stop it falling?

There are hydraulic pumps that prevent the seats from opening, unlike in films like Final Destination 3, so everyone would be alright. I think they may also use this to keep the train on the tracks.

Basically your buggered and it will be a long climb down.

This happened when they were testing it. 4 test engineers were stuck at the top for an hour and had to be rescued by crane.

Any ride that slows by means oher then “normal” brakes also has a back-up braking system that will allow the ride to stop should the primary system fail.
If you get stuck at the top you either wait until they fix it or, if they can’t you get air lifted off.

Wow using compressed “hair” as brakes must be something to behold..Sorry I couldn’t resist..It’s Monday you know.
Now in answer to your question. IF there was some horrible failure they do have a couple of backup systems. The first is with the cables itself, they have devices that can slow them down in certain circumstances that don’t rely on outside power. If for some reason these kick in while they are up high, they could be stuck there for a while. Also, it is not shown in that shot but most of these types of rides have things that can best be described as giant “shock absorbers”. Usually there is one on each side. Here gravity takes over and they will hit these to slow them down before they hit the ground.

it probably has some backup non electric brakes so it wouldnt plunge the riders to their deaths…
