Bio
n the 1980s, Longthorne was a regular turn on the variety show, Live From the Palladium, and at one time had his own half hour show which was produced by Central Television and screened across the ITV network. As well as touring, Longthorne has also enjoyed success with his records, enjoying eleven album releases, over the last three decades. He is also known as an impersonator of others, including fellow singing star Shirley Bassey, who famously commented that he “does me better than I do myself”, and Tom Jones.
Longthorne has been beset by a number of health problems, and has undergone treatment for leukaemia for many years. In recent times he has had a bone marrow transplant, but in April 2006 returned to the stage in his adopted home town of Blackpool. As of 2007, he was engaged in a UK tour and recorded his latest album with Tim A. Duncan in the Berlin Studios, in Bispham, Blackpool. Here he recorded his first album, which attained platinum status. The latest album was their third collaboration.
There have also been several releases of live recordings, mostly from Blackpool. The most popular of Longthorne’s live albums is Live at the Royal Albert Hall, which was recorded in 1994.
